Although I don't advertise/brand myself as a "Riding Instructor", it does interest me that many of my Groundwork Clients eventually become Ridden ones too.
As a general rule, nowadays I don't actually actively offer riding lessons. The reason for this is because I feel my skill set is more beneficial to horses from the ground. Its an area of equestrianism that is SO often overlooked, but often where "issues" truly lie.
So I feel its more important for me to target my energy and training to that side of horse behaviour and ultimately welfare because there are not many equestrian professionals that do.
However...
As I've been discussing in depth with one of my Rider Mindset Modelling clients just recently; COMPETENCE leads to CONFIDENCE.
And if you can gain a greater understanding of your horse (competence) and build stronger relationship foundations from the ground (confidence, in both of you), it's makes sense that the natural progression would be to translate those to the saddle.
Therefore, I don't mind BECOMING "the Riding Instructor"... because I know the foundations for a successful and harmonious partnership have already been put in place, or are at least in the process!
I've had SEVERAL clients who's confidence has been absolutely SHATTERED by previous Instructors... Why should they trust me?
It also comes down to trust.
I've had SEVERAL clients who's confidence has been absolutely SHATTERED by previous Instructors 😪 and that breaks my heart. Why should they trust me?
Horses are brilliant judges of character, and I'd like to believe (possibly wrongly, who could say?) that every horse that I've worked with has had a greater trust in me - or humans in general - at the end of a session than when it began. Working with the horse and handler from the ground first gives them an insight into how I work, what it involves and often opens up new perspectives that may not have been previously considered.
This was also why I developed my Confidence Coaching Programs and implement them into my in-person training. Because EVERYONE deserves to enjoy their time with their horse. Whether that's from the ground or whilst aboard.
It truly is a privilege to see the transformation in my clients, both horse and human.

💡 when you see the light bulb moment
✨️ beaming smiles at the end of a ride
😌 that lovely deep sigh and sleepiness of a relaxed horse
So, if you're looking for a "Riding Instructor" I might not be your person 😉
But if you're seeking a deeper connection with your horse, are willing to perhaps do things a little differently to "tradition" and are eager to learn, then I might just be able to help 🤗
